Back in Action

After a short respite, we’re back in the saddle, preparing for our Fall schedule. That includes a return to two very different venues, each of which we love.
First, we’ll be in Petaluma on October 16th for an evening at Corkscrew Wine Bar, (100 Petaluma Blvd N, #103) for two sets. The Corkscrew is almost a house concert for us: intimate setting, low volume, and folks who come to listen. They know the place and expect that the music is worth their time. So it’s great for us. Wonderful to know that a song is working because you can hear someone’s breathing in the quieter moments. Come and have a glass of their selected wines, enjoy a tasty menu, and listen to us.
The second return is to the Fenix Music and Supper Club at 919 Fourth Street in San Rafael. With a 6-million dollar acoustically designed room and sound and video system, the Fenix is cutting edge as a venue. The stage is roomy but thrust out into the room, so everyone has a great view. The sound, on stage where we hear it, and off where you do, is excellent. Martin always runs a great mix, too. The food? Well, check their website for what Gator is cooking up that evening. It will be Southern style and yummy, for sure.
For these shows, we’re preparing sets of our best tunes from recent shows, and we’re adding a few new ones and some new arrangements of older ones as well. The new ones include two new originals (or maybe three, depending on how quickly they develop) and a tune some of you might know from decades past. It’s the 1964 Dylan composition “Chimes of Freedom,” made familiar on The Byrds’ Mr. Tambourine Man LP. Of course they were the Byrds, and the song is earmarked by Jim/Roger McGuinn’s signature 12-string. We don’t do it their way except that we definitely explore 3-part harmony. But we’re taking it more in the direction of chimes—letting single notes on guitar and bass ring out and resonate. We’re excited about how it’s progressing in early rehearsal and we look forward to sharing it and the rest with you all.
Look for these and other future gigs on our “Shows” tab and on Facebook. And by the way, if you haven’t liked us on Facebook yet, please do! We’re getting close to another milestone and we’d like to blow through it in anticipation of these gigs!
